Your Road To Recovery
Over the next 10 months, New PASSAGES will be exploring ways to facilitate the recovery process on the back of each Liaison Program newsletter. As with substance use, there is no cure for serious mental illness. However, it is possible to be in a state or a process of recovery. Recovery in that sense is a journey, which honors each person's uniqueness and promotes a positive sense of self. This process should raise a person's awareness of the internalized stigma that they have assimilated from the larger society and make them more aware of their own self-worth.
We at New PASSAGES believe strongly in developing the natural strengths of each person. Staff work to identify a person's strengths and then assists them to develop personal goals and strategies to be more successful in their daily lives.
Just as you and I desire meaningful relationships, a safe place to live and a job, so do people who have a disability. It is our responsibility to assist the people who come to us to achieve their life goals. To do this, New PASSAGES supports our larger community by striving to break down the barriers that prevent people with serious illness from being fully integrated into their communities.
I recently heard a story about a member at New PASSAGES’ Our House Clubhouse who wanted to go to work at a Kroger’s supermarket. The Clubhouse team was able to assist this person in attending skill-building classes that would help them to achieve their goals. After many long weeks of persistence and perseverance, the Clubhouse member went to an interview and GOT THE JOB.
Helping people be more fully integrated into their communities, helping them get jobs, and helping them maintain meaningful relationships with their family and friends is our number one mission at New PASSAGES. Each year, New PASSAGES assists thousands of people on their journey to recovery. This is not something we can do alone however, we need your support. Please look forward to receiving the Liaison newsletter and finding ways that you can help. If you're not on our mailing list, please call us at 248-338-7458. We look forward to hearing from you.
