An Important Announcement from New Passages
2008/2009 Annual Open Enrollment Update

It’s that time of the year again!  Each year, New Passages offers Open Enrollment to employees.  Open Enrollment activity starts on August 4, 2008, and ends on August 29, 2008.

Open Enrollment allows you to take advantage of New Passages’ health insurance benefits.  During Open Enrollment, you may also change the type of health insurance you currently enjoy under the health insurance plans.

Health care costs continue to increase.  New Passages is concerned about increasing health care costs, but, like everyone else, must pay higher premiums to offer quality health insurance to you.

For 2008/2009, the increase in the cost of the health care premium is slightly above six percent (6%).  Just like in the past, this increase is equally shared between you and New Passages.

The new plan is just like the current plan.
The change is in prescription co-pays:

ENHANCED PLAN:

Prescription co-pays increase
From $5/$30.......... to $10/$40,
depending on name-brand or generic drugs.

STANDARD PLAN:

Prescription co-pays increase
From $10/$40......... to $15/$50,
depending on name-brand or generic drugs.

Other co-pay costs such as office and emergency room visits remain the same.

You can save money by qualifying for the Enhanced Plan.  This is done by signing up for Healthy Blue Living and ensuring that you complete the Health Risk Appraisal and visit with your physician during the first 90 days of the Health Plan year and complete a Qualification Form.

To keep co-pay costs the same as last year, New Passages would have had to pass along an increase of almost five percent (5%) in the cost of the premium to you.  For a single enrollee, that would have amounted to $14.47 per month, or $173.66 per year!  The current increase is only about half that.

There are other changes this year:
  • Separating dental and vision - this means that you can sign up for one or the other or both.
  • Deductions will be taken over 26 pays rather than 24.  This will reduce the amount of each deduction.
  • We hope to be offering some other discount arrangements, to be announced at open enrollment.

Below find the open enrollment schedule.  If you are a full time employee, you MUST attend ONE meeting.  Please see your manager for details.
