New Passages Consumer Advisory Council
The New Passages Consumer Advisory Council has an important role in the organization. It has input over the decisions made related to establishing policy and procedures and represents the voice of individuals receiving behavioral health and rehabilitation services from New Passages. The Consumer Advisory Council consists of one Council Member Representative, with one Alternate, from each County in which New Passages provides services. This is important in that New Passages has programs spanning across 12 counties.
New Members for the Advisory Council must first be nominated. An individual may nominate themselves, be nominated by other consumers of services, New Passages staff, or community members. If the person nominated wants to be an Avisory Council Member, he or she must fill out an Application and return it to the Council. The Consumer Members will review the Application and, as appropriate, make a recommendation to the New Passages Leadership Team. All Advisory Council Members are appointed by the New Passages Leadership Team.
Each Council member, prior to taking his or her seat, goes through leadership training to assist in gaining the necessary skills to advocate in a variety of ways and to a variety of groups This one-on-one leadership training teaches an individual the role of being a Council Member, such as being a representative of New Passages consumers at large (not just oneself). It also teaches Council Mechanics, such as Roberts Rules of Order and Agenda Setting.
The Council meets the third Friday from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. New Passages is very proud of this Advisory Council. It is also very thankful for their commitment and their demonstrated positive influence in assisting the organization with carrying out its Mission.
