“New Passages joins other National Council members in the Nation’s Capital for Hill Day”
Kathryn M. Young, VP of Program Planning and Development and Jean Nemenzik, Director of Services at New Passages participated in the National Council’s “Fifth Annual Hill Day” in Washington, DC on June 10, 2009. Council members met with members of the United States Congress on several issues that include, but are not limited to:
(1) Health Care Reform and Parity,
(2) Support for Federally Qualified Behavioral Health Centers,
(3) Inclusion of CBHO’s in Federal HIT Funding Initiatives,
(4) Increased funding in FY 2010 budget to 35M for Primary / Behavioral Health Care Integration Grant Program,
(5) Support for Senate Bill S.1136 - introduced by Senator Debbie Stabenow on May 21st to establish finance for Medicaid Demonstration Initiatives in 10 States, using an integrated and comprehensive model of health care to meet both the behavioral and physical health needs of persons with mental illness, and
(6) Support of the Community Mental Health Services Improvement Act, which creates loan assistance, programs to improve the workforce and funding to cultivate telepsychiatry usage.
The day before their visit, members gathered for discussions on these and other topics and attended an evening Reception of networking with National Council members from across the US.
