 MISSION

Our mission is to provide the best community-based behavioral health services.  We promote recovery, independence, and community integration while maximizing the individual's quality of life and self sufficiency.

VISION

In order to flourish in a rapidly changing health care environment, we believe we must be committed to excellence.  We must also stay true to our core values: respect for individuals, community-based support, innovation, teamwork, and continuous quality improvement.  New Passages will strive to be the provider of choice wherever we provide services by continuing to develop a wide range of innovative programs, and by developing strategic alliances with other health care providers, on a local and regional level.  Our goal is to be recognized as a National Leader in Community-Based Mental Health & Rehabilitation Services.

VALUES

  • Respect for Individuals/Freedom

New Passages cannot succeed without people. It is people who give this agency meaning and it is people who will make it work. We cherish humane means resulting in humanizing ends. New Passages was founded on the idea that treating people well - with dignity, respect, and with expectations of growth and development - is fundamental to the achievement of satisfying, self directed life.  New Passages is committed to the Department of Community Health's goal of affirming "the full rights and dignity of citizenship" for persons with mental disabilities and addictive disorders.

  • The Importance of Democracy and Teamwork

New Passages was founded on the belief that people are equal, that disagreement and dissent are normal, and that dialogue is critical to our health as a learning community. Thus, every one affiliated with New Passages can offer perspective, insight, and input into improving what we do, how we serve and support people, and the quality of our efforts. Our greatest assets are a willingness to listen, a willingness to understand another person's point of view, and our willingness to engage in dialogue. We view these as basic elements of democratic governance and in this manner we are part of a worldwide movement.

  • Community Based Supports and Services

New Passages was founded on the idea of offering a broad array of supports to people coping with psychiatric and developmental disabilities. These supports include actual services, skill development and training, opportunities to be productive, opportunities to participate in the life of a community, advocacy, and linkage to entitlement and benefits. They also involve informal supports like warmth, caring, recognition, and understanding. A founding idea was that offering strong, flexible supports - especially in an informal manner - will result in the achievement of a satisfying, self-directed lifestyle.

  • The Importance of Innovation

New Passages was founded on the belief that it can demonstrate new, creative and innovative ways of supporting and serving people coping with psychiatric and developmental disabilities. Innovation, creativity, and the inherent risks involved in doing things differently but responsibly are hallmark values of New Passages.
