Portable Supports Program (PSP) would like to recognize two of our consumers for their recent accomplishments: Aaron Young (right) and James Bielski (left). Aaron and James are roommates in one of PSP two bedroom apartments. Aaron has been with the program for more then one year. James is a new member of six months. Both of these men have shown determination and strong wills in accomplishing their goals.
Aaron has learned many independent skills such as cooking, cleaning, paying bills on time, staying active in the community, attending to ADL's, etc. He recently leased his own car. With several suggestions from staff and PSP case managers, he came up with his own direction for his life by himself. He said he wanted to get a culinary arts degree and become a chef. After attending basic skills training at Michigan Works, he earned a scholarship to Macomb Community College where he has been attending school for the past year. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA and is getting a Certificate of Completion in Culinary Arts by the end of this year. He has been offered job recently at The Sterling Inn where he works 35 hours a week, with medical benefits and further training to learn catering for large parties.
James Beilski had many issues coming into the program but he is working hard at all of them to succeed in becoming independent. His main goals coming in to the program were to "get a job and get a car." James has been with PSP for 6 months and in that time he has worked hard to show his independence by getting a job at McDonalds. He has been working steadily at his job for 3 months and is really happy. We have heard reports from the manager that James is the hardest working employee on the team! James is also saving for a car and has hopes to have one very soon.
It is great to see this remarkable progress with the both Aaron and James in such a short time. We hope the best for them and we will continue to help them to succeed even further with their goal to be independent and productive members of society.
Good job guys, way to go! We are very proud of you!
